Life story
" William Barrett"
March 29, 1957 - June 9, 2026
William Barrett, 69, of Culpeper, VA passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side after a brief and unforeseen battle with Liver Cancer.
He was born in Orange, NJ in 1957 to Dorothy and Kenneth Barrett, but grew up in Pompton Plains, NJ.
He was the youngest of four children. His siblings are Patricia, Robert and Kathleen. He was predeceased by both of his parents and his sister, Patricia.
Bill met his wife, Carolyn, when he was 16 years old and they were married 45 years.
They have two children, Tamara and Paul and five grandsons.
Bill resided in Pompton Plains, NJ for most of his life before moving to his home in Charlotte, NC for the next twenty-one years. In August 2025 Bill and Carolyn relocated to Culpeper, VA to enjoy their retirement years.
June 9th was the day the music died.
Bill was known for his love of music and was always surrounded by the sounds of his favorite artists. He loved to talk about the songs meanings, history and fun facts.
He was a sports enthusiast who especially enjoyed watching Football, Baseball and Golf.
Bill was also known for his knowledge on trivia, history and random facts. Bill loved to socialize and hang out with family and friends. He was always quick with a joke or witty comment.
While his early career was focused on Computer Science and Information Technology, his later years brought him to HVAC sales which suited him well since he had the “gift of the gab”.
As a young homeowner, he developed an extensive construction skill set through on-the-job training on his own home directed by dear family & friends willing to teach him the tricks of the trade. He soon learned that he had a knack for building or fixing most anything put in his path. Needless to say he was recruited for many jobs through the years, which brought him immense satisfaction and deep gratification.
Bill had a soft spot for furry friends. He especially loved all dogs, and they adored him as well. Bill’s #1 pal was his black Labrador, “Padre” who found his way into his heart one Father’s Day.

Another way to remember Bill would be through an organization that supports both Veterans and rescue dogs ; K9s for Warriors
Their mission is determined to end Veteran suicide and return our Warriors to a life of dignity and independence. They rescue and train dogs to be paired as Service Dogs at no cost to Warriors struggling with PTSD and other invisible wounds of war.
