Life story

"Terry Ray “Ricky” Pope, 66, of Fredericksburg, Virginia, passed away on September 20, 2026.

Terry was born in Panama City, Florida, to Roman Grover Pope and Audrey Furn Pope, and grew up in Northwest Florida. He was raised by Vada and A.T. Pope alongside his siblings, Robert, Kenneth, Jeanette, Ray, Richard, Linda, Betty, and Margaret. His Florida roots and love of the outdoors remained part of his story throughout his life.

A painter by trade, Terry spent much of his life working with his hands and taking pride in his craft. He especially enjoyed fishing and the simple pleasures of being outdoors and near the water.

In November 2025, Terry moved to Virginia to receive medical care and spent the final chapter of his life there.

Terry was a father, grandfather, brother, husband, and friend. He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Bare, and her husband, Bobby Bare; and his daughter, Traci Rees, and her husband, Jeremiah Rees. He was a grandfather to Nathaniel, Aidan, and Tyler Rees, and Shelby, Justin, and Kacey Bare.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jessica, and his wife, Linda.

Terry’s life leaves behind stories, memories, lessons, and pieces of himself carried forward by his loved ones. His work, his joy of fishing and the outdoors, and the memories made along the way will remain part of the story he leaves behind.

The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to Affinity Care of Fredericksburg for the compassion, kindness, and care they provided to Terry.

A private family gathering will be held in his memory. Terry’s ashes will be laid to rest at sea alongside those of his daughter, Jessica, and his wife, Linda.

Dad, we hope you have found the peace you spent so much of your life searching for. Some things in life are difficult to put into words, but there is love, forgiveness, and the quiet grace of letting go. We will carry the memories that matter, hold close the love that remains, and wish you peace as you begin your final journey. Rest peacefully, Dad.
