Life story
"With deep love and gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the passing of Tara Smith of Chicago, Illinois, on June 8, 2026, at the age of 59. Born on May 20, 1967, in Chicago, Tara was a devoted Christian, a steadfast community leader, and the heart of every Sunday family dinner.
Tara graduated from Harvey College and went on to serve the City of Chicago for 30 years. Her career was marked not only by dedication and professionalism, but by her calling to mentor others—especially young people who needed guidance and a voice of encouragement. She had a gift for seeing the best in those around her and lifting them up.
Known for her amazing cooking, Tara’s kitchen was a place of warmth, wisdom, and laughter. She loved shopping and could turn even an ordinary errand into a moment of joy. Above all, she poured her time and energy into nurturing children and building community, leaving a legacy of kindness that will continue to ripple outward for years to come.
Tara is survived by her loving husband, Devom; her children, Darrien and Lashondra; and eight cherished grandchildren, who will forever carry her light forward. She is also remembered by a wide circle of family members, friends, neighbors, and colleagues whose lives she profoundly touched.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 19, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church of Christ. A Celebration of Life will take place on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at 3:00 p.m., followed by a reception at 4:00 p.m., both at Trinity United Church of Christ. The funeral service will be held on Monday, June 22, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., also at Trinity United Church of Christ.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Missing You
In the quiet of the night,
When stars begin to shine,
I find your laughter echoes,
In every shadow, every line.
The moments shared, now fleeting,
Like whispers on the breeze,
Each memory a treasure,
Bringing me to my knees.
Time may fade the pictures,
But love remains so bright,
I hold you in my heart,
Through every sleepless night.
Though distance keeps us parted,
And silence fills the space,
I carry you within me,
In dreams, I see your face.
So until we meet again,
I’ll cherish what we knew,
A bond that goes beyond the stars,
Forever missing you.
Love, Son
