Life story

" Herbert C. Olsen, 77, formerly of Callicoon, New York, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2026, at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, Virginia, where he had moved in recent years to be closer to his youngest grandchildren.
He was born on June 2, 1949, to George and Sarah Olsen. He grew up farming in the Beechwoods of Callicoon and spent most of his life working the land, though at different points he also worked as a heavy equipment operator and cross-country truck driver. No matter where life took him, farming always called him back — it was where he was happiest. Herbert was well known for his hard work, dependability, and an easygoing nature that made him easy to talk to, whether you'd known him for years or just met.
He is survived by his wife, two children, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
He was cremated, and a celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
