Life story

" After a brief illness, Blaine Bonjour, 64, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 27, 2026 surrounded by his family. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories that will be cherished by all who knew him.

Born in Iowa, Blaine moved to Virginia as a child. He spent summers at his grandparents’ home in Colonial Beach, swimming, fishing, crabbing, and fossil hunting with his brother, mother, uncles, and cousins. It was a place for family gatherings and meant so much to him. In 2017, Blaine moved to Colonial Beach just down the road from the cottage his grandparents built, and the area became the gathering place for him and his family once again. He was able to spend the remaining years of his life looking out over the pond from his porch and the Potomac River just beyond it, sharing this place he loved with those who loved him.

Blaine dedicated much of his professional life to the construction industry, where he worked as a superintendent, overseeing both residential and commercial job sites. Throughout his distinguished career, he was responsible for overseeing the renovation of over 250 buildings, including the Marine Corps barracks at Quantico, and the construction of more than 250 buildings, 1000 condominiums, and 50 NTB service centers across the country.

Outside of his career, Blaine had a genuine passion for food and cooking. He was a true foodie who loved discovering new dishes and perfecting his recipes. He especially enjoyed practicing dishes throughout the year in preparation for the holiday season, when he could share his cooking with the people he loved most.

Blaine was also an avid reader and a recreational golfer who had a special and enduring love for all things turtles, proudly displaying them around his home. Towards the end of his life, Blaine raised chickens, rescued senior dogs, and made plans to start beekeeping.

Blaine is survived by his son Logan, his daughter Melissa (David), their mother Joyce, and his grandsons Owen, Jameson, and Mason, who brought tremendous joy and pride to his life. He is also survived by his brother, Todd (Anna), his brother Bruce, his uncles Jerry (Judy), Tim, and Brian, and his numerous cousins. Blaine was preceded in death by his mother Lynne, his father Walt, his grandparents Ora and Verna, and his Aunt Debbie.

He will be forever loved, forever remembered, and deeply missed.

Blaine’s Celebration of Life will take place next summer in the place he loved most. More details will be provided at a later time. "
