Life story

" Richard Joseph Fisher was surrounded by his family as he peacefully passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 after an extended illness with lung disease.

He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Michelle; his children, Jaclyn Fisher (Christopher Murphy), Samantha Sturgill (Adam), Kathryn Salguero (Douglas), Richard Fisher (Kelsey Chestnut), and Nicholas Fisher; five grandchildren, Tyler, Emily, Dougie, Carmen, and Ryan; and one great grandchild, Ryker. He is also survived by his brother Paul Fisher (Jane), sisters Valerie Bryans (Andrew) and Leonie MacMahon (Tim), and numerous nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey (d. 1994), the mother to his children, and also by his father, Joseph and mother, Joan Elizabeth.

Richard grew up in England where he attended The University of Manchester and received a Bachelor of Science - Computer Science. This started his lifelong career as a Technical Computer Specialist and Network Developer. His early work in the computer industry took him to several places, and he eventually made his permanent home in the United States. It was work he truly enjoyed and was exceptionally talented in performing.

Richard had a passion for life, a passion for learning, a brilliant mind, and a clever sense of humor. He enjoyed sharing with his family the things he loved and experienced, especially his fondness for the music of Pink Floyd and going to the beach. He was a wonderful Husband, Father, Pop-Pop, and so very excited to be a Great Grandpa. He made friends everywhere he went. Always thoughtful, Richard loved the people about him. Loyal, kind and generous, he was always finding ways to be of service to them and lift their spirits. One of his favorite quotes came from the author, Wayne Dyer, “True nobility isn’t about being better than someone else. It’s about being better than you used to be.” He truly embodied this throughout his life-time as he worked hard to overcome some very personal and difficult challenges during his life.

In his latter years, he became a member at the Fredericksburg Masonic Lodge No. 4 and later transferred to the Kilwinning-Crosse Masonic Lodge No. 2-237. He was very active in multiple organizations and loved the brotherhood, service work, and the men he served. His final act of service was as the District Deputy Grand Master to the 8th Masonic District of Virginia.

Richard will be sorely missed and always in the hearts and minds of those who loved him. A service and celebration of his life will be held on June 15, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. at The American Legion, Spotsylvania Post 320, located at 8456 Brock Rd, Spotsylvania, VA 22553.
