Age 79

Life story

" Charles “Chuck” Ives was a beloved great grandfather, grandfather, father, and husband during his incredible 79 years of life. He passed away peacefully in his home April 9, 2024 surrounded by family and his pets, Ryder, Bailey, Luna and Oliver.
Here we (Emily and Samm) will share our favorite memories and record his biography. We hope that you will add on with your favorite memories as well.
We will remember Chuck for his loving nature, his playfulness, and his occasional, endearing stubbornness. Because we had lost our mother, Dee, Chuck’s only daughter, in 2014, we became particularly close with Chuck. We took care of him, and he took care of us with adoring words and ready hugs.
For me (Emily), my favorite memories are small, silly things. Whenever we talked it was as if there was no age difference. Sometimes I cooked dinner and I’d constantly make him a taste tester, running in back and forth with something new on a fork asking if it’s good. Over the last several months Poppop and I got a lot closer. He would tell me stories and we’d chat about this and that. I’ll never forget , we were on the way home from a doctors appointment and I played Poppop his favorite song, Sound of Silence by Disturbed. This day was the first day I had ever heard Poppop sing; and luckily I was on his blind side because I was crying like a baby. It was a very special moment. When we were toddlers, we gave him the name “Poppop” to distinguish him from anyone else in the family.
For me (Samm) it's hard to make a list of the memories I cherish the most. Poppop truly became the grandfather I needed when I lost my own, but he also became a best friend. He molded my heart to accept, feel and learn the actions of love, and there is no better feeling than being around someone that loves you unconditionally. No judgement, no stress, just warmth and love. Poppop was and will always be my feeling of home. The one memory that describes this the most was from just a few months ago. I had been working long hours, was exhausted, stressed, and overwhelmed and he was always there with encouragement and wisdom to keep pushing forward for my family. I am so lucky to know that type of unconditional love and I only hope to make my family feel that warm, secure, and comfortable bond one day.
Poppop had a long and full life. He was born on August 24, 1944, in Hudson, Connecticut.
Chuck had also served in the Airforce for 4 years.
We will miss Chuck dearly, but we are so grateful for the time we had to spend with him. We will always feel his presence in our hearts in all times and occasions going forward. We love you Poppop
We are thankful for the friends, family and “adopted” grandkids who helped our family in time of need. "
