Life story
" Born Michael John Payne
Growing up, he was known as Michael, Mike, Mikey, Big Bro, and Michael John. He was an active boy, taking part of the Boy Scouts and helped his father, John Payne, with his tree cutting service.
He was very much into music and did lights for the band Sister. He was always drumming on something and even more so when he was excited. His musical soul ranged in variety, he was a great dancer, and he loved having fun. His interests in music and him singing Rebel Yell loudly sparked his son’s love of rock music.
He had the biggest laugh. His laugh would get everyone laughing with him. And he was always up for a good joke. His laugh was boisterous and he had a whistle that could be heard from miles away.
He was in service to the United States with an early job as a security guard at the National Archives in Washington DC and subsequently worked for defense contractors most of his career, such as at Raytheon and was very proud to work there. He spent many years with them.
He was a member and attended the American Legion and Mickey Finn Marine Corps Detachment leagues in Dumfries and was voted a chaplain during his time at Mickey Finn.
Michael was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, and being born the year that they started, it was to be expected. His love and the Cowboys Nation lifestyle was passed onto his daughter and they spent many seasons together watching the games no matter the outcome.
Mike loved, and he loved hard. We suffer a huge loss with his passing and will keep all of his memories with us. We won’t forget about you Michael John Payne.
