Life story

"Radha Goyal of Great Falls, Virginia, passed away peacefully at her home on February 25, 2024, surrounded by her husband and three children. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, who cared deeply for her family. She was known for her kindness, generosity and selflessness and was always a loving presence to those who were fortunate to spend time with her.

Born on August 15, 1948, in Mainpuri, a small town in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, Radha began her life journey. As the eldest child of the late Sita Ram and Shukuntla Agrawal, she was raised with traditional Hindu values and was committed to ensuring that she and all of her seven siblings were well educated. She graduated from Raghunath Girls College, in Meerut, India, with a Master of Arts in Political Science and went on to marry Vinod Goyal on January 18, 1974. The newlywed couple embarked on a fulfilling journey, immigrating to the United States and first settling in Arizona, in pursuit of the American dream. Soon after, Radha and Vinod moved to Ohio, where they welcomed their daughter, Shalini, in 1975. Two years later, she and Vinod settled in Northern Virginia where they welcomed their older son Sharad in 1978 and their younger son Nitin in 1982.

Radha lived a fulfilled and content life and was devoted to her family and God. Radha took immense pride in assisting three of her siblings and brother-in-law’s family in establishing themselves in the United States. Similarly, she felt a sense of accomplishment in caring for her in-laws with love and respect over the two decades when they resided with her. This was all in addition to Radha being the driving force behind Vinod starting a Federal IT consulting business in 1994. She supported the business full time for the first 15 years and then part-time thereafter.

As a mother, Radha imparted invaluable life lessons and instilled a sense of discipline. Her steadfast and principled nature served as beacons, shaping her children’s paths towards careers in medicine. Though she may no longer be physically present, her legacy endures through the values she instilled within the family she raised with love and determination. Radha also embodied the essence of a nurturing mother and grandmother, delighting in baking sweet treats such as cookies, pies and banana bread, preparing Indian dishes, all while showering her children and grandchildren with love and affection.

Radha is survived by her husband Vinod; 3 children, Dr. Shalini Kaneriya, Dr. Sharad Goyal and Dr. Nitin Goyal, and their respective spouses Dr. Perry Kaneriya, Dr. Seema Goyal, and Dr. Rachna Goyal; her 7 grandchildren Arjun, Sonali, Sarina, Riya, Shiv, Ishan, and Amira; her niece Shilpa and her family; and her 3 brothers and 3 sisters and their families. The bonds she nurtured extended to all of her family, creating a vast network of love and support. Her absence will be deeply felt, but her legacy of selflessness, generosity, and unwavering love will endure and serve as an inspiration for all who knew her.

The family requests that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to The Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins University. You can make a gift online at: https://secure.jhu.edu/form/Kimmel. In the drop down for “Please designate my gift to support”, select “Other” and type in “Dr. Won Jin Ho's Gift Fund”.

May Radha’s soul find eternal peace, and may we carry her legacy forward, honoring the values she held dear.
