Life story

" Marland “Lee” Dees Jr. passed away on Monday, January 15, 2024 in Fredericksburg, Virginia. His battle with serious medical issues in recent years showed his courage in facing life’s challenges with a smile. Despite the journey, Lee came out swinging and stayed strong until the end.

His love for family, friends, cooking, and music are all hallmarks of Lee’s life. He adored his family to include his “grand puppies” and was overjoyed at the birth of his first newborn granddaughter. Long lasting friendships he had kept for over 30 years were always important to him. He also treasured the new found friendships he created with many of his caretakers and therapists over the last 6 years. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t whip up in the kitchen (or his personal favorite- the grill). As a self taught acoustic guitarist, he would boast to everyone, “I can play the first 30 seconds of any song!” And that he could, just listening by ear.

Lee will be remembered for cutting and cooking a mean steak, being a great father, and friendly face to so many.

Lee will be honored in a celebration of life, in Fredericksburg, to be determined at a later date. "
