Life story

" Marjorie Jane Pollard of Fairmont, WV passed away peacefully in her home on January 4, 2024. She was born in 1921 in Hudson Falls, NY. She married her husband Stan after meeting him while he was in the Navy. During her younger years she worked as a telephone operator in NYC, and eventually became a seamstress where she worked making drapes in a drape shop. Marjorie and Stan had five children and lived in the Tampa/St. Pete area where they were married for over 45 years up until Stan's death in 1988. Marjorie enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and loved gardening, sewing and animals. Her love for animals was pure and brought her great joy. She especially loved spending time watching the birds visit the bird feeders and bath in the bird bath and other nature's critters frolic in the backyard from the back deck of her home she shared in Fairmont, WV with her daughter Corrine and son-in-law Lenny, who cared for her during the past year.
She was very grateful and often curious as to how she was able to make Centenarian status and was always up to share her life stories and reminisce with her grandchildren about her life.
She will be greatly missed by her family and her friends. Her Hospice Care team from WV Caring became like her family as they showed her dignity and care during their time caring for her up until the very end.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Blanch Bovair (Superinant), her husband, Stanley Pollard, her brother James Bovair, sister Nannette Whitman and her son Jerry Pollard. She is survived by her sister, Leona Kasner of Live Oak, FL; her daughter, Sharon Garrison (John), Plainview, TX; her son Keith Pollard (Phyliss), Paragould, AR, daughter, Corrine Giangiulio (Lenny) of Fairmont, WV; and son, Jim Pollard (Kathy) of Lake Wales, FL. Her surviving grandchildren include, Brian Gammon (Dawn), Tracy Casebier (David), Chris Pollard, Steven Pollard (Lisa), LaToshia Foss (Ryan), Halley Gann (Tyler), Denise McGinty (Robert) and Jason Giangiulio (Denise) and she had many great grandchildren who will miss her dearly.

Keeping with Marjorie's giving spirit, her remains will be donated to West Virginia University Human Gift Registry in lieu of a funeral. It was very important to her, as she wanted to aid in scientific research and the advancement of medicine and possibly determine how she was able to live such a long and healthy life as she had never had any major health issues and was often mistaken to be at least twenty to thirty years younger than her true age.

In the future, WVU's Health Sciences Center will honor all those persons whose bodies were received during the year by the WVU Gift Registry. An announcement will be shared once information is received for this service to honor Marjorie's special gift to this cause.

Services will be announced at a later date.
