Life story

" Martha Ellen Truslow/Vandevander 89 of Spotsylvania County, Virginia passed away peacefully at home on December 26, 2023. Martha was born August 12, 1934, in Pocahontas County, West Virginia to Ellis and Goldie Vandevander. She moved to Spotsylvania Co and married Archie (Tom) Morris Truslow from Stafford Co Virginia. Martha and Archie had 6 children Donald Garrett, Tommy Truslow, Peggy Truslow (Durrette), Glen Truslow, the twins Linda Truslow (Rubsam) and Brenda Truslow (Kirtley).
Martha was preceded in death by her husband Archie Truslow, Son Donald Garrett, Grandson David Garrett, Brothers Arthur Vandevander and Richard Vandevander and her sisters Sally Vandevander (Wimer) and Jane Vandevander (Penny) and Half sister Mary Mongold.
She is survived by her only living sister Bessie Vandevander (Ballard). Her children Tommy Truslow, Glen Truslow, Peggy/Ricky Durrette, Linda Rubsam and Brenda/Rodney Sr. Kirtley. Her Grandchildren Amy/Gary Durrette (Waddell), Angie/DJordan Durrette, Crystal/Harold Durrette, Robin/Bruce Kirtley (Crane), Rodney Kirtley Jr, Anne Rubsam & TJ, Riley and Alyssa Watts. Her West Va family Linda Wimer, Betty Mick and Lulabell Turner. Nieces Shirley Ballard and Tammy Vandevander (Harris). Multiple other nieces and Nephews and Sister in laws and Brother in laws. Multiple Great Grandchildren Addison Crane, Ayden and Chyanne Brown, Emma, Landon and Katelyn Waddell, Chance and Brooklyn Durrette, Arik, Jadah and Mason Wilson and Lucas Williams and Great Great Great Grand Children Azura and Amy.
Martha was a very strong woman growing up in the mountains of West Virginia, Always telling stories of the deep snows they had to walk to school in. She was always ready to ride and go shopping. Her favorite color was green. She loved her cats. She would give anything she had to you if you needed it. She lived her later years with her Grand Daughter Anne Rubsam who I know will truly miss her a lot. She got to see a lot of different places with Anne and her Great Grand kids. So, until we all meet you again Mom, I love you very much and you will be missed. Oh, and just a quick inside joke she used to say to me and Linda on our Birthdays well I guess the mail don’t run today being Jan 4th. Thanks mom see you later. Love you.
