Life story

"Barbara E. Church, affectionately known as “Nannie”, departed this life on January 2, 2024.
Barbara was born January 23, 1942 to the late Pauline and Isaac Church.
She attended Abundant Life Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Barbara was a praying woman that loved the Lord and she also loved her family.
She was loved by many and she never met a stranger.
Nannie's favorite saying was "I Declare".
Barbara is survived by three children, Junior Person (Joann), Madeline Roach (George) and Ester Epps; five grandchildren, Daniell Stith, Dr. Dontè Corey (Jerome), and Jasmine Epps (devoted); seven great grandchildren; Milton “PJ”, Shaliyah, Shamia, Shymaya, Kai, Pinky, and Lori.
Gladys is also survived by two brothers, Walter Pettaway (Glorine) and Bobby Pettaway (Sharon); two sisters-in-law, Rosa Mae Pettaway and Sara Pettaway; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.


Services will be held 12:00 P.M., Wednesday, January 10, 2024 in the Chapel of J. M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment, Inc., 102 South Avenue, Petersburg, VA, the Rev. Dr. Damion T. Batts, eulogist. The interment to follow at Mt. Sinai Memorial Park."
