Life story

" Gloria Jean Ferguson Gray was born in Bowling Green, VA on January 6, 1951. She was the 7th of 8 Children born to the late Walker Ferguson and Annie Laura Beverly Ferguson.
Gloria was called home to be with the Lord on November 7, 2023, at her home in Spotsylvania County, with her family by her side.

She was predeceased by her parents, her brothers John A. Ferguson and Arthur Lee Ferguson, and her sisters Carol Barrington Ferguson, Frances Maxine Coleman, Eleanor Elliot Hunt, and Mary L. Williams.

She was also predeceased by her beloved grandson, Michael D. Gray (1993-2017).

Gloria graduated from Union High School in Bowling Green, VA, in 1969. In her initial employment with Moore Business Forms, she quickly rose through the ranks to a managerial position. When Moore shut down its Fredericksburg office, she switched gears. Again employing her naturally strong work ethic, she eventually became an award-winning real estate agent in Fredericksburg, where her clients trusted her to help them find the perfect home.

On August 27, 1983, she married her husband, Michael Gray, at Shiloh (Old Site) Baptist Church in Fredericksburg, VA. They were soulmates. Together, they raised a family, traveled the world, celebrated holidays, volunteered, and served God in many ways.

When they first met, Gloria and Joey, her young son, knew that they had found a family in Michael and his daughters. Gloria and Joey shared a lifetime of memories, inside jokes, and the ability to make us all laugh. Their bond, was, and always will be, unbreakable.

Gloria created a safe and beautiful home for her family and friends. She and Michael frequently hosted events, including the Annual Gray Family Christmas Breakfast, where family and friends came from all around the United States to celebrate.

In her 72 years of life, Gloria, along with her husband, visited 35 foreign countries. Together, they stood in amazement before the majestic Pyramids at Giza; witnessed the fabled Great Wall of China; and strolled through the open theatre at the ruins in Biblical Ephesus.

They walked over and sailed through the storied Canals of Venice and gazed at the immense natural beauty of New Zealand, of Bora Bora, Samoa, and Tahiti, of Vietnam, of Ireland, and beyond. Hand in hand, Gloria and Mike wandered the streets of Paris, London, Prague, Beijing, Hong Kong, Stockholm, Helsinki, Singapore, Budapest, Vienna, Seville, Florence, Saint Petersburg, Copenhagen, Shanghai, and other magical cities.

In addition to being an amazing wife to Michael, she was a wonderfully dedicated mother to Joey Ferguson, Nicole Gray-Chan, and Gretchen Carreiro, as well as being a doting grandmother to Michael D. Gray, Amelia Chan, Roland Carreiro, and Elisa Chan. In addition, she was a loving and supportive sister to all seven of her siblings. In Gloria's life, family was of the utmost importance, second only to the Lord she served.

Gloria is survived by her husband, Michael, her children and grandchildren, her brother Tony Ferguson, nieces and nephews, cousins, friends, and her beloved church family at Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
