Life story

" Karen Hatchett Landry was born in Lawton, OK on November 12, 1946, to Phillip and Bertha (Arlington) Powell. She received her education from Elgin Public Schools and went on to graduate from Lawton High School. Karen married her high school sweetheart Raymond Joe "Butch" Hatchett Jr. in May of 1964 and they began raising their family in Walters, OK. Karen and Ray had two sons, Gary Ray Hatchett Sr. and Robert Keith Hatchett . Karen was a loving and caring mother to her boys and truly enjoyed her daily check ins with them.

Her hobbies included bowling tournaments and league bowling where she won multiple women's awards. Karen was a working wife and mother who started her career as a supervisor at Haggar Slacks in Temple, OK and later transferred to the Lawton, OK facility where she remained until their closing in the 80's. When the company sold to KCA Apparel, she stayed employed there until their permanent closing in the 90's. She finished her working career at Rocket Pawn and Jewelry in Lawton, OK shortly after she was widowed. Karen was a proud and prominent member of the Shriners Eastern Stars and enjoyed helping her community by raising funds for the Shriners Burned Children's Center in Texas. She started serving her community at an early age which began with the Girl Scouts of America.

After grieving the loss of her first husband, she met the man she would love and enjoy living out the rest of her days with, Steve Landry. Steve and Karen were married 15 wonderful years and she gained several new family members that she loved and adored. She loved taking trips to Louisiana and enjoyed spending time being around them all. She loved experiencing a good adventure at any age and was dedicated to living her life to the fullest. She enjoyed traveling, fishing, a cold coke, and watching her favorite team, the Oklahoma Sooners . She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sibling, aunt, coworker, and friend.

Preceding her in death are her Father, Philip Powell of Rice Lake, WI, her mother Bertha ( Arlington) Powell of Anadarko, OK, her first husband Raymond Joe "Butch" Hatchett Jr. Of Walters, OK, her brothers Russell Powell of Fort Riley, KS, Wallace Sammons and Gary Sammons Sr. of Lawton, OK.
She is survived by her loving husband Steve Landry, her son Gary Hatchett Sr. & Karen's daughter in law Dana of Elgin, OK, her son Robert Keith Hatchett of Lawton, OK, her brother and sister in law Keith & Nanette Powell of Moore, OK, and sister Janice Stott of Lawton, OK.

Karen loved being a grandmother and leaves behind 5 grandchildren; Gary Ray Hatchett Jr of Lawton, OK, Corey Hatchett of Davenport, IA, Hollie Brumley of Marlow, OK, Jessica Hatchett-Hardy of Coldwater, MS, and Emily Hatchett of Lawton, OK. Karen had a full heart filled with laughter and love for her 4 step-grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 6 step-great grandchildren, and 7 great great grandchildren.

She taught her family that no matter what, they are always welcome and loved. She valued family the very most.
