" Dr. Ida Bethea, passed to eternal rest on Thursday , October 12, 2023, on the Feast of the Holy Rosary. "Ida" as she was known, was born on September 3, 1957 in Richmond, Virginia to Linwood and Louise Jones. She was raised in Richmond's East End by her grandmother, Moriah Ida Bethea. Ida was received into the Roman Catholic Church as a convert shortly after her seventeenth birthday at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church. Ida was an eager student all of her life. She received her Bachelor of Arts, Masters of Arts and Masters in Education from Virginia Commonwealth University. Her academic achievements were crowned, at age 64, with the bestowal of a Doctor of Philosophy from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2018. Ida spent a lifetime as a public school teacher in the City of Richmond Public Schools. She taught, primarily, English, in the City high schools including Huguenot High School. She ended her time on this earth peacefully at Southampton Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center surrounded by friends and devoted care-givers. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday October 15, at 6006 Three Chopt Road. Internment Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
