Life story

" Charles Edwin (“Ed”) Spooner of Fredericksburg, formerly of King George, passed peacefully in his sleep on August 21, 2023 after a long illness.
Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, he graduated from Cleveland State University and then attended Indiana University and earned Masters degrees in Mathematics and Operations Research. Ed met his wife of 50 years, Christine, during a break from graduate school. In 1972, the newlyweds moved to King George where he worked for 45 years as an engineer at Dahlgren. In his retirement, he enjoyed amateur radio and wooden boat building. He had a deep love and respect for nature which began as an Eagle Scout and continued throughout his life, whether sailing or volunteering at local parks. He shared this love with his family and was a devoted and supportive husband to his wife and father to his daughters, Elizabeth and Katherine (D Wilson).
He remained kind and deeply grateful into his final hours for the support and care provided by many friends as well as Hospice staff and volunteer through his illness.
Ed was a member of Peace Lutheran Church for over 40 years. His memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 16 at 11:30 at Peace Lutheran Church, 5590 Kings Highway, King George, 22485. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Peace Lutheran Church. "
