Life story

" Mary J. Lang was born in Denver, Colorado on April 22, 1933 during a blizzard. She grew up in the Panama Canal Zone. She was an extremely talented artist and had a degree in Painting from American University. She met her husband, William Adams Lang, who also grew up in the Canal Zone, on a ship to Washington D. C., where he attended and graduated from George Washington University with a law degree, and she was a secretary. She married him in New Orleans where her father's family was from in 1955. They then went to Virginia Beach where he went to OCS at Oceania Naval Airstation. They moved to Falls Church, VA and they had 4 children. Eventually, they moved to Portland, Oregon and she became a business and art teacher. They moved briefly to Washington State where she received her Master's in Family Counseling from St. Martin's College. She worked as a counselor in a drug rehab facility. She retired and William, (Bill) died after they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. She had a full and interesting life. She was well travelled. She was a lifelong avid reader and knew so much about history, art and design, literature, psychology and religion that she certainly could have taught any of the subjects at a college level. Her passion was learning and she adored flowers. She was very wise. She will be missed by everyone who knew her. "
