Life story

"Against All Odds

Gale Marie Davis-Horton (Toni), daughter of the late Wilbur Davis and Glady Dennison-Davis, was born March 6, 1951, in Greenville, Mississippi. Her parents moved to Chicago in 1956, where she attended Garfield Elementary School and Richard T. Crane High School. Shortly after finishing high school, she found employment as an Inventory controller at the Coca-Cola Bottling Co.

While working at Coca-Cola, Gale began building her family, giving birth to her first daughter Adrian. She worked hard and was the first in our family to buy a brand-new car right off the showroom floor. later came a new addition to the family, another baby girl Evangeline. Gale then lived in a two-bedroom apartment and decided that home ownership was the way to go. She bought her first home around twenty-nine years old and married Walter Adams, the union brought forth another baby girl, Tameka. Being bitten by the real estate bug, she made her first no-money-down deal for a two-flat fixer-upper on Lavergne Ave in Chicago. Enjoying the thrill of rehabbing her first building, she became a licensed contractor remodeling homes all over town; Gale was not afraid of hard work or working hard and was determined to set a good example for her family.

Gale married Bobbie Horton in the summer of 1994 and soon after started Davis General LLC. Even as an entrepreneur, she continued to press forward and obtained a bachelors degree in criminal justice from the University of Chicago. She also began gardening, cooking fresh food and vegetables to share with family and friends. Gale Davis-Horton was extraordinary; she taught us to live well, work hard and play harder. She showed us how to enjoy life, love, friendship, and family. Against all odds, she went from utilizing the governmental system to owning her own business. Against all odds, she went from leasing an apartment to buying, selling, and renting homes. Against all odds, she went from being a statistic (a young mother) to graduating from college.

Gale later received Christ and joined Gospel Temple COGIC. As a result of her generous spirit and pleasant personality, she was loved by many. She quietly departed this life on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at Rush Presbyterian Hospital, in Chicago, Illinois. She was preceded on her journey by her mother and father Wilbur Davis and Gladys Dennison Davis of Chicago, IL. Spouses: Walter Adams of Chicago, IL., and Bobbie Horton of Chicago, IL. Sisters: Freddie Mae Bell, Lavergne Higgins, Doris Washington of Chicago, IL. Brothers: Thomas (Tom) Dennison of Greenville, Ethelbert Dennison of Chicago IL.
