Life story

" Troy Lee Hill of Fredericksburg, Virginia, passed away peacefully with his brother at his side on April 28, 2023, at Mary Washington Hospital. Troy is survived by his two brothers, David Leroy Hill Jr. of Winchester, Virginia, and Deric Hill of Virginia Beach, Virginia; his daughter, Candace Hill of Fayetteville, North Carolina; grandson, Aaron; and many cousins, aunts, and uncles throughout Virginia and North Carolina. He is preceded in death by his parents, Deacon David Leroy Hill Sr. and Deaconess Sandra Hill; his sister, Jackie Hill; and an infant brother.
Troy is best known for his sense of humor and his nickname, “Superman.” Because of his love of the superhero, it was not unusual to see Troy wearing Superman jewelry or a Superman T-shirt.
Troy was born in Warren County hospital. He grew up in Reston, Virginia, and attended Fairfax County Schools. He attended South Lakes High School in Reston where he played football until injured. He worked as a butcher on the meat counter at Food Lion until a diabetes diagnosis changed his life. Troy moved in with his close family friend, Bobbie Germann, and her extended family adopted him as part of their family. As a result, two of Bobbie’s nephews call him “Uncle Troy” and the nephews' four children consider Troy an uncle as well. Dialysis treatment is only useful for 5 years, but like his favorite superhero, Troy beat the odds and utilized treatment for 3 times as long. Troy is remembered as a lifelong Washington Commander’s fan and never let life’s challenges hold him back. Troy’s family and friends ask that you not dwell on the sadness of his passing but the joy he brought to everyone’s lives. "
