Life story

" It is with great sadness that the Garrett family announces the passing of David Richard Garrett of Fredericksburg, VA, and Henrico, NC, on April 18, 2023, at Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington, VA.

David was born on Jan 27, 1970, in Alexandria, VA, and spent his childhood in Dale City, VA. He graduated from Gar-Field Senior High School as a member of the class of 1987. He was a proud Army Veteran and loved the USA and his brothers of the 463rd Military Police Company. David dedicated his life to supporting and loving his wife of 25 years, Stephanie, and to raising their two amazing children, whom he loved to brag about, Madison and Dawson. He coached youth football and will always be known to many as Coach Dave. He owned and operated a successful construction business in northern Virginia for 20 years before retiring to enjoy fun-filled days at beautiful Lake Gaston with Stephanie and his best friend, Kevin Higgins, and his wife, Carrie Higgins. David was a devoted husband and father, a loving son and brother, and a true and loyal friend. He was the instigator of fun and always the life of the party. He was passionate, hard-working, and brave. David was adored by many. He will be loved forever and missed deeply.

David is survived by his wife, Stephanie Marie Garrett; his children, Madison Shaye Garrett and Dawson Reed Garrett; his parents, Shirley Jean Garrett and David William Garrett; his sister Jennifer Marie Garrett; his nephew, Garrett James Gum, and wife, Kayla Nicole Gum; his mother-in-law, Annis Jean Massey; his brother-in-law, Michael Scott Massey, and wife, Sally Streater Massey and their sons Aaron Jacob Massey and Noah James Massey; his Aunt Robin Garrett Evans; his cousin Nicole Olivia Konstantinou and husband Dimitrios Johnny Konstantinou and their son Robert David Konstantinou; and numerous cousins, extended family and friends.
