Life story
" On Wednesday December 21, 2022, loving husband and father, Adolph H. Griffin went home to be with the Lord.
Adolph Herman was born to the late Anna Bell Stewart- Griffin and Herman Leon Griffin on March 4th, 1948 in Los Angeles, California. They were blessed with two children- son, Adolph and daughter, Sheila Marie.
Raised in Los Angeles, Adolph attended 99th Street School and Gompers Jr., High with his lifelong friend & "brother" Lewis Gibson. Proudly graduating from Washington High School in 1966. He continued his education at Los Angeles City College.
Adolph was united in Holy Matrimony to Shirley Ray Copeland on June 21st, 1968 in Los Angeles, CA. Married for 54 1/2 years, their union produced two children, Angela Marie and Darryl Anthony.
Adolph's public profession of faith was an unconventional baptism, he and his daughter were baptized together on July 8, 1981 at Los Angeles' Dockweiler Beach. For several years, Adolph was an active member of Hope of Glory Christian Center, under the leadership of Pastor Calvin B. Rhone.
As a young adult, Adolph's love of fast cars led to his purchase of a ' 59 Corvette that he "raced" and "repaired" regularly while working as a mechanic at the neighborhood service station, Ed Lockett's Standard (Chevron) Station.
Pursuing a new opportunity, Adolph joined the ranks of Greyhound Lines. During his 40+ year tenure, Adolph became known throughout the company by the nickname "Griff". The majority of Griff's career was spent at the Downtown Los Angeles station, with several years commuting to San Diego, to work as a station manager. During Griff's time at Greyhound he held several positions including baggage claim officer and driver operations supervisor. Retiring in 2012 as Asst. General Manager.
Until he physically was no longer able, Adolph enjoyed a "friendly" game of bid whist, spades and dominoes with family & friends. Loved westerns and was the undeniable king of DVD rentals. A lover of "real" jazz and unimpressed by new contemporary artists, Adolph's favorite phrase "brothers have been doing that for years".
Younger Adolph with his life long friends Charles Ragland & Aaron Jones enjoyed playing in the Sunday Breakfast League at Southwest Bowl. Adolph and his buddies also played pick up soft ball at Manchester & Alondra Parks.
