SFC Perry Marcel Tyson, age 54, was born on February 22, 1968, in the small village of Cayon, on the island country of St. Kitts & Nevis. As a young child his mother relocated back to St. Thomas, USVI. Perry
graduated from high school at Charlotte Amalie in St. Thomas.
He is preceded in death by his mother Francis Tyson, father, Homon Berkel and sister, Cecilia Tyson-Prince.
His surviving siblings include: sisters, Sonia Tyson, Celeste Berkel, Wendy Berkel, and 1 brother Walden Maduro(Yolanda Maduro). Perry’s loving and dutiful wife is Evette Baker-Tyson. Their sons are Brent Scott, Marcel Tyson, DeJahn Tyson, and Taric Tyson, and a grandson, Amari Scott. Perry was an amazing dad, who loved and supported his children wholeheartedly.
He also leaves behind a host of cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends.
While in St. Thomas, Perry was a member of the USVI Civil Air Patrol, and reached the rank of Cadet Captain. He also served in a leadership role as a mentor and counselor for the USVI Children & Youth Task Force. He attended Norfolk State University in Norfolk, VA. He joined the US Military in 2007 and served his country for 15 years. Perry achieved the rank of (SFC) Sergeant First Class. During his military service, he also earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology Management from Trident University International. In his role as a US Army Military Recruiter, he worked with young men and women to guide their paths towards a productive life and service to their country. He was also a motivational speaker at high schools where he was
stationed or located over the years.
Prior to Perry's military career, while living in Orlando, he worked in the software industry, and also volunteered as a youth pastor at his church, Livingston Street Church of God (910); In 2000, he was honored with a Church of God Leadership Award for outstanding and faithful service to the Young Men’s Ministry.
Perry’s hobbies included cooking, his jerk and curry chicken recipes were the best. Oh, let’s not forget about the awesome whole fried turkey on Thanksgiving Day. His favorite TV shows were Hawaii NCIS, Chicago Fire, Queen Sugar, and any Tyler Perry movie comedy. Perry was also a big fan of NFL Football.
He enjoyed travelling with his wife and children, completing trips to cities in both Africa and Europe and most of the islands in the Caribbean. Perry was very resourceful when it came to computer software and hardware, an incredible handyman around the house and could replace or fix just about anything in the home or on the automobile.
In Life, we Loved you dearly; in death we Love you still. In our hearts you hold a place; no one else will ever fill. You, SFC Perry Marcel Tyson, a husband, father, uncle, cousin, friend, mentor and military man, left this earthly scene too soon; you however leave an unforgettable mark of goodness for all who know and love you. Your kindheartedness, thoughtfulness and leadership will always remain with us.
You were always the captain of your ship, and the master of your destiny.
Rest in peace SFC Perry Marcel Tyson, and know that those you leave behind can only say we will miss you always and forever.
