Life story
" On Friday, March 4, 2022, Michael Francis Tennyson, loving father of two children, and grandfather of three, passed away at age 83.
Michael was born on February 28, 1939 in Washington DC to Howard and Grace (Hullings) Tennyson. He graduated from Oxon Hill High School in 1957 and had numerous friends there with whom he continued to keep in touch for over 60 years. He was voted Most Versatile in his graduating class and lettered in both baseball and football, and was an All-State football player. He attended college at East Tennessee State.
Subsequently, he proudly served in the United States Army from 1959-1965, and was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division. While in the Army, he earned numerous awards and badges and was very proud of his Parachute badge and the completion of Jungle Training. He was honorably discharged, and was a member of both the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Michael worked predominantly in the electronics field following his military service, and served in various capacities ranging from his initial entry as a Sales Engineer, to Vice-President of a company in which he was a managing partner.
Michael married Jeanne Garner in 1963, and had two children Michael Howard, and Ann Michelle. The family grew over the years, with son-in-law, Brad Muhart, daughter-in-law, Pollyn Rodgers Tennyson, and grandchildren Tommy, Matthew, and Joey.
Michael loved his 'people' (his family and friends), and had many long-lasting and meaningful friendships. He rarely missed a birthday, and delighted many by his calls to them on their special day. He maintained a very close relationship with his extended family, and went on many outings and adventures with his children, and his nephews Halvor and Garth. He was known for his quick wit, charm, and his dedication to loved ones. He found great enjoyment in dancing, and singing, and was especially happy when he could dance at gatherings and reunions.
Michael was preceded in death by his father, Howard (Ramey), his mother, Grace, and his sisters, Patricia and Grace. He is survived by his two children, two children in-law, three Grandchildren, several cousins, nephews, and their families. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at St Mary's Episcopal Church in Colonial Beach Virginia at 12 o’clock p.m. A live video stream of the service will be available to those who are unable to attend in person. A gathering in the Parish Hall will be held following the service.
