Life story
" Todd was born in San Jose, California, on May 10, 1961 to Dorothy McKinney (deceased) and Roy McKinney (deceased). He enjoyed a happy childhood with his parents and two brothers, Lance and Kress McKinney. Todd especially enjoyed the summers he spent with his family camping and skiing on Lake Shasta. Growing up, the brothers often fought, like brothers do, but Todd was the type of guy who always had his brother’s back.
Todd spent over 30 years perfecting his housing construction/restoration/renovation skills. He was a master ayt his craft, having completed several college programs in different skill specialties. He was greatly confident in his ability to complete any job and was always proud of a job well done. Those who have worked with Todd say he was exceptional with clients and was the “go-to guy” to get things done right.
Perhaps Todd’s most important quality was how he could always make people smile and had the kindest heart. Todd was a genuinely good person. Even as a child, he was always trying to help others without anyone having to ask. Whether it was helping a stranger reach something on the top shelf, buying a coat for a single mom’s daughter because she could not afford one, helping his best friend mow the lawn when he hurt his back, or doing everything possible to make his family happy, Todd was always willing to help people.
His favorite things to do were spend time with his fiancé, Dana Watson, and his “daughter,” Hayden Watson no matter what they were doing and just hanging out talking with his friends, especially his best friend, Bobby Brown.
Despite not being her biological father, Todd was the greatest dad to Hayden. He never missed a single t-ball game, play performance, chorus concert, chance to see her cheer, or important moment in her life. He was there for her first day of school, taught her to ride a bike, made soup when she was sick, and chased away monsters at night. He wore make-up and bows when she was little and dyed his beard green just last year to make her smile. He always knew just how to make Dana smile. He loved to take care of his girls and make them feel special.
Todd enjoyed watching all sports, but especially hockey when the Capitals were playing. He collected Volkswagen Hot Wheels and Snoopy memorabilia and had fun searching for new ones every chance he got. He lived for Taco Tuesday and often reminisced about eating Round Table Pizza with his family when he was young. He enjoyed building things with wood and was an artist. People always enjoyed commenting on Todd’s fashion, as he wore shorts even in the winter. That is, when he was not being seen around town in his favorite pajama pants. He had a foul mouth, a big laugh, a contagious smile, a soft heart, and he excelled at quick-wit and sarcasm. He was a great friend and brother and an amazing father and fiancé.
Todd is survived by his daughter Jennifer McKinney Macias, her husband, Robert, and his grandson, Conner (all residing in Las Vegas, NV), his brother Kress McKinney and wife Jan (residing in San Felipe, Mexico), his nephews Matt and Marcus (residing in Sacramento, CA, his brother Lance McKinney, wife Lisa, and two nieces, Harley and Halie (residing in Elk Grove, CA), his fiancé, Dana Watson and “daughter” Hayden Watson (both residing in Woodville, VA) and many friends. He has touched so many lives and will be missed immensely.

"Todd was a part of our family. It has been well over 20 years that he came into our lives. From that point on he was special to all of us. I suppose he was like a son-in-law to Bobby and me once Todd and our daughter, Dana got together. He was here with us through holidays, and birthdays, and sick days, in and out of the hospital. Often sitting in the hospital with each of us when needed. He came by the house nearly every day after work to see if we needed anything or if there was anything he could do for us. He was always there when we needed him for whatever. He always had a positive attitude and a smile. Made everyone around him smile. He did everything for my daughter and granddaughter. They will miss him much more than we do. If there was anything he could do for a friend or even an acquaintance he was right there for thjem. So we say God's Speed and blessings to our good friend on this new journey of yours. You will always remain in our hearts.”
