Life story

" It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Patrick Sheridan Dougherty.

Born on March 18, 1982, in Alanta, Georgia, Patrick was the beloved son of Joel Terry Dougherty (T’dog) and Martha Charlene (Ellard) Dougherty. After a brief struggle with an aggressive cancer, he left this world in the early morning hours of July 1, 2026. Patrick was 44 years old. He resided in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

Patrick was a proud graduate of Massaponax High School in the class of 2000, where he lettered in football. He furthered his education at North Georgia University. Although he explored various career paths, Patrick ultimately found his true calling as a journeyman lineman.  For the last eleven years he dedicated himself to providing power across the nation and responding to the call of duty during major storms, including the recent devastation of Hurricane Erin in Puerto Rico. His commitment to his work and community was unwavering.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Patrick was a man of many passions. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life – fishing, hunting, and collecting antiques. He especially enjoyed riding his motorcycle with Amanda and treasure hunting with his daughter Kinzley. Patrick was also an avid fan of the Wahington Capitals Hockey team.

Patrick is survived by his cherished daughter, Kinzley Teagan Dougherty, who was the light of his life. He also leaves behind his devoted brother Brian Cleburne Dougherty and sister-in-law Amber Rachel Dougherty as well as his beloved nephews Nolan Charles Dougherty and Ethan Reed Dougherty. Patrick’s fiancé, Amanda Johnson, as
his steadfast partner and confidant. He was embraced by an extended family of brothers and sisters from the Local #70 International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, who stood by him in both work and friendship. His fraternal grandparents, Verna Lee (Dillard) Dougherty and Robert H. Dougherty (Red) as well as his maternal grandparents, Martha Anne (Fancher) Ellard and Charles Aven Ellard, preceded him in death.

Patrick chose cremation which was handled by Virginia Cremation Service.  Per Patrick’s request, there was no funeral service. Those moved to donate in honor of Patrick’s memory are asked to donate to organizations supporting electrical workers and their families, cancer research, or to a charity of their choice.

As we remember Patrick, we are reminded of the indelible mark he left on the world. Patrick loved to be vexatious and challenging, but he lived a life of service both in his chosen career and in the big and little ways of helping his friends and loved ones without expecting anything in return. His dry humor and quiet acts of kindness were gifts treasured by his family and friends. Although he is no longer with us, he is remembered and greatly missed. Patrick’s legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. As we say farewell to one who was proud of his Irish heritage, we borrow the words of the famous Irish funeral blessing, “May the road rise to meet you … And until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand.” "
