Life story

" John Robert Corkett, 67, of Stafford, Virginia, passed away on June 24, 2026 after a nearly two-year battle with Glioblastoma. He was born on December 17, 1958 in Richmond Hill, New York, a son of the late John and Frances Corkett.

After graduating Thomas A. Edison High School, John served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Francis Scott Key, as a Missile Technician. He settled in northern Virginia where he began a career in data management and storage while earning an Associate of Science degree from Northern Virginia Community College.

John was known for his outgoing personality, willingness to lend a helping hand, and love of New York sports. He never met a stranger, had a love of buying t-shirts from restaurants, and preferred to drive with his left arm hanging out the window. His favorite meal was anything that included seafood. He enjoyed reading Lee Child’s Jack Reacher books and watching British crime and mystery television shows.

John was the loving husband of Theresa Corkett (Fennessey) and proud father of Stephanie Kohn (Corkett) and Sarah Corkett. He was a doting Pop Pop to granddaughter Abigail Kohn. He is survived by two brothers, David Corkett and Paul Corkett, and one sister, Annmarie Corkett, along with many other family and friends who will miss him. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by two brothers, James Corkett and Gerald Corkett.

John touched the lives of everyone who had the honor of knowing him. His selflessness, warmth, and generous spirit will be remembered fondly. He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and compassion that lives on in all of us.
