Life story
" Julie Marie Schlappie, 74, passed away peacefully on Mother’s Day, May 10, 2026. She was born on October 20, 1951, in Toledo, Ohio, to Arthur E. Trost III and Mary Jane Patchett, both of whom preceded her in death.
Julie’s life was marked by both hardship and resilience. After moving to Oregon and Washington, she found greater freedom, independence, and happiness. In her retirement years, after relocating to Florida, she was able to reconnect with her children and grandchildren, a chapter of life that brought her immense joy. She cherished the opportunity to watch her family grow and was blessed to meet her great-grandchildren.
Julie shared many special memories with those she loved. She taught her granddaughter how to drive and offered support and care to her oldest granddaughter’s daughter during a time of need. She became especially close with her eldest daughter, Julie Lynn. Together they spent countless days working out, swimming, laughing, and simply enjoying each other’s company. Julie loved posing for photographs and proudly admired her daughter’s photography talent.
Later, Julie moved to Virginia to live with her son Shawn, his wife Geri, and their growing family. There, she was able to welcome and bond with her youngest grandchildren from the very beginning of their lives. She also became closer with her children Acina, Skip, and Shawn, and reconnected with many of her other grandchildren, relationships that meant so much to her.
Julie had a love for reading, especially the novels of Stephen King. She enjoyed horror movies, popcorn, laughter, and spending time with the people she cared about most. Those who knew her will remember her as funny, sweet, spirited, and sometimes wonderfully sassy. She was also very smart. She also took pride in her education, earning an associate degree in business from Strayer University.
In her later years, Julie faced serious health challenges, including strokes that gradually affected her memory. Despite these struggles, the love of her family remained a constant source of comfort.
Julie lived in Fredericksburg Virginia and leaves behind a large and loving family, including her four children, fifteen grandchildren, and Six great-grandchildren, all of whom will miss her deeply and carry her memory forward with love. She also leaves behind her sisters Margie Diane and cathy and so many more.
Her life was not always easy, but in the end, she found connection, family, laughter, and love — the things that mattered most to her.
