Life story

" Franklin Stewart Elliott (Stew) 72, of Culpeper VA, passed away on May 10, 2026 at his home following a brief illness. Stew was born on August 2, 1953 in Olney, MD to Delores Elaine Elliott and Franklin Foster Elliott.

Stew is survived by four of his children: his daughter Susan Kimberly Elliott Gray (Jimmie), his son Patrick Kent Elliott (Mindy), his son Daniel Jesse Elliott, and his daughter Kelley Virginia Delgado (Daniel). He is also survived by two of his siblings: his sister Carolyn Leona Elliott Malpiede (Donny), and his brother Dennis Dwayne Elliott (Missy), and seven of his grandchildren: Michael Stewart Elliott (Olivia), Dillon Carl Elliott, Kayla Ann Elliott, Matthew Damien Elliott, Tyler Ray Elliott, Madison Bentlee Guinn, and Eliana Joy Kenedy, and one great grandchild Gracie Mae Nicholson.

Stew is predeceased by his wife Barbara Lynn Elliott, his son Jason Stewart Elliott, his son Michael Vincent Elliott, his granddaughter Ashley Mae Elliott, his father Franklin Foster Elliott, his mother Delores Elaine Elliott, and his sister Juanita Delores Elliott Frazier.

Stew was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on January 3, 1970 at Sherwood High School in Sandy Spring, MD with his closest cousin, Charles (Buck) Elliott and Buck’s wife Teresa. Stew married the love of his life, Bobbie, on June 10, 1972 at the Spring Valley Kingdom Hall in NW Washington DC and they raised 6 children together: Jason, Mike, Susie, Patrick, Danny, and Kelley. He spent time each week studying the Bible with his wife and children during a family Bible study. Stew & Bobbie were married for 47 years. Stew was a carpenter by trade, learning this lifelong skill from his father and teaching it to his sons. Together they built many homes for people and assisted on Kingdom Hall ‘Quick Builds’ and convention preparation work. This talent became second nature to the entire family resulting in the formation of Elliott’s Construction Company. Stew was a hard worker and there was rarely a day he’d miss work. Even on a rainy day he was often found at the job site checking on things or picking up materials. He might make a pit stop at Tippy’s for a California burrito and some fiesta fries, but he was always on the go. Stew was a longtime fan of the Washington Redskins football team. He loved family time together, beach vacations each year, crab feasts, making apple butter, having friends over, camping, hiking trails, riding dirt bikes, music, and laughing and joking with people. He called it teasing, and he loved to tease Buck and Missy anytime the Dallas Cowboys would lose a game. In his later years he liked sitting on his porch swing and enjoyed watching his albino squirrel he made friends with. Stew was a loyal son, a caring brother, a devoted husband, and a supportive father. He will be missed dearly, but only for a short time while he’s resting. Stew had strong faith in Jehovah God’s promise in the Bible of a resurrection to life right here on earth. He looked forward to that time, when his family will be whole again. His surviving sons and daughters hold onto this hope to be reunited with him again one day soon.

The family has greatly appreciated the love and kindness shown to them during this difficult time and the support of the congregations in Culpeper VA as well as all over and acknowledge Hospice of the Piedmont for their care and support as well.
