Life story
" Kathy Griffin King, 75, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2026, after a short but aggressive battle with cancer.
Kathy was born on November 16, 1950, in Raymondville, Texas. Her father, Billy Griffin, was an Air Force fighter pilot in WWII. Billy passed away in 1959 when Kathy was just nine years old. Her mother, Eve Griffin, was a steadfast Christian woman who, after her husband’s passing, courageously raised three daughters on her own. Kathy had a younger sister, Karen, and an older sister, Pam. She played basketball in high school and loved spending time at South Padre Island. She attended Stephen F. Austin State University for two years but then decided to pursue a career in medical transcription in Houston, where she met Brad.
They met at her apartment complex—he would see her out watering her plants on her balcony and finally got the courage to talk to her. They dated for ten months before getting married in 1976. Their first son, Barret, was born in 1979, followed by their second son, Chase, in 1983. She retired in 2013 and became a grandmother in 2018 when her first grandson, Preston, Barret’s son, was born. Chase’s son, Logan, was born later that same year, and his second son, Dylan, was born in 2024.
Kathy enjoyed visiting with her family, listening to music, gardening, and spending time outdoors, as well as taking trips to Las Vegas and down to the Valley (Raymondville). She loved to laugh—or, as she would say, she would “get so tickled”—and she had the most contagious laugh. She was a great cook and learned from her mother. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandbabies, who knew her as “Nana.” She always spoke her mind, but she loved with her whole heart. She was an exceptional mother, grandmother, and loving wife. She will be dearly missed, but we are comforted knowing that she is with the Lord.
Kathy is survived by her husband, Bradford King; her sons, Barret and Chase King; her grandsons, Preston, Logan, and Dylan; and her sister, Karen Harvey. She was preceded in death by her parents, Billy and Eve Griffin, and her sister, Pam Plesko.

"My Aunt Kathy was a great lady who could always make me laugh. She loved me as if I were her own. She wasn't just a sister to my Mom but her best friend. I will lovingly look back on the memories of many holidays together, vacations to South Padre Island and trips to Astroworld where we spent many long days. I rejoice in knowing she has been reunited with our family members who have gone before us and is home with our Lord, Jesus. I love you, Aunt Kathy!”
