Life story

" Lilly Payne Mastin, 73, of Spotsylvania, Virginia, passed away on March 28, 2026, in her hometown. Born on September 9, 1952, Lilly was the daughter of the late Ryland Payne Sr. and Lois Payne.

Lilly was mother to three children: Troy Haley, Joy Haley, and Lori Mastin Ventura. She also shared a close bond with her daughter-in-law, Rachel Haley Blockovich. Lilly's surviving siblings include Grace Payne, Ryland Payne Jr., Jerry Payne, and Donnie Payne.
Lilly's grandchildren include Jason, Kristalyn, Troy Jr., Andrew, Lilyana, Elena, and Ethan. Her great-grandchildren include Emma, Mason, Hazel, and Zyan.

Lilly had a deep appreciation for the beauty of nature and found happiness in tending to plants and flowers. She loved watching birds and found simple pleasures in their presence. A spirited individual with a sense of fun, she enjoyed playing lotto scratch-offs and going to casinos to play the slot machines. Lilly had a large collection of jigsaw puzzles, mostly of nature landscapes. She enjoyed putting puzzles together, especially with her grandchildren. These hobbies brought her moments of excitement and joy throughout her life.

She was predeceased by her parents as well as her brother, Raymond Payne. Lilly's memory will live on through those who cared for her.

Special thanks to Lilly's brother, Ryland, for taking her to many medical appointments and chemo treatments after her cancer diagnosis and for visiting Lilly almost daily after she began receiving hospice care.

In accordance with Lilly's wishes, cremation will take place and her ashes will be lovingly spread among some of her favorite places: Gatlinburg, Tennessee; Destin, Florida; Charles Town, West Virginia; Las Vegas, Nevada; and Lake Anna, Virginia-locations that held special meaning to her.
