" John William Chewning of Spotsylvania, Virginia , born on August 7, 1961, in San Jose, California, peacefully passed away on March 19, 2026, in Fredericksburg, Virginia, at the age of 64. John faced his health challenges with courage and grace, leaving behind a legacy of love and compassion, as demonstrated by his decision to be an organ donor.
Throughout his life, John was known for his deep love of animals. He shared his journey with many cherished pets, each one holding a special place in his heart. His kindness and empathy extended beyond his furry companions to all those he encountered, touching the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know him.
John was preceded in death by his beloved mother and father, Evelyn M. Chewning and Henry F. Chewning, his sister, Beverley A. Bull, brother, James H. Chewning III and niece, Sarah Lee Bull. He is survived by his sister, Koren L. Chewning, as well as his nephews and their children, David Bull (Renee), William Chewning (Constance), James Chewning (Lindsay), aunts, Margaret Mackenzie and Eleanor Dominic, as well as cousins in the United States and Canada and an enduring circle of close friends, including his lifelong friend, Ivo Sphere. John's warmth and generosity left a lasting impact on all who had the honor of calling him a friend.
