Life story

"Jim was a graduate of East Carolina University with a degree in Industrial Arts Education. Following graduation, he enlisted in the US Navy. After serving his tour of duty, he married his childhood sweetheart Barbara Mattocks, also of Maysville, NC. They were married for 65 years.

Jim taught school in Fairfax County until his retirement. He received his Masters in Education from UVA while teaching.

Jim and Barbara built a home in Rapidan, VA after retiring. Jim volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and the Love Outreach Food Pantry. He was a member of a lively book club for many years.

A Celebration of Life will take place in the Spring. Memorial contributions in Jim’s memory can be made to Habitat for Humanity, the Love Outreach Food Pantry or the Orange Free Clinic."
