Life story

" David Carlton Heflin, 58, succumbed to his three-year fight with cancer on Dec.14, 2025.

A lifelong Fredericksburg resident, he spent his entire career of nearly 40 years as a computer specialist at the Dahlgren Naval Base.

He was just as devoted and loyal in his personal relationships, showing his generosity to a wide circle of friends and loved ones.

An enthusiastic sports fan and concert-goer, he adorned his walls with mementos of his beloved Jayem Yellow Jackets and UNC Tarheels.

A devout Christian and member of Fairview Baptist Church, he looked forward to a heavenly reunion with bygone loved ones including his mother, Dorothy Snellings Heflin, who provided the bedrock of his early years. His remains will be interred alongside her and his father, Carlton Broaddus Heflin, at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

He is survived by a sister, Pamela (David) Sellers, nephews Ben and Jack (Sarah) Sellers, and a great niece, Evie, all of Greensboro, N.C.; cousin Janna (Tom) Theado of Fredericksburg and their children, Scott (Erin) Theado and Ashley (Brian) Raska, as well as their families.

Also holding a special place in his heart were dear friends Keisha and Bryan Lewis and their children, Amaris and Vohn (his godchildren).

In lieu of a funeral, the family invites mourners to come by the home of Tom and Janna Theado, 1012 Innis Drive, Fredericksburg, VA between 2:00 and 4:00 on Saturday, December 20th to commemorate a life well-lived and friends well-loved.

In lieu of flowers, please make any donations in his honor to Samaritan's Purse. "

Services will be private.
