Life story

" Sharron Rankin Carter passed away peacefully on December 11, 2025, in Culpeper, Virginia. She was 79 years old. Born on February 25, 1946, in District of Columbia to V. Jeff Rankin and Doris Kearns Rankin, Sharron grew up with a strong sense of family and community. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Robert Rashleigh Rankin. Sharron is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Rick; two daughters, Teresa Carter and Anita Waller (Karl); and one son, Ricky Carter II, two granddaughters, Megan Mozingo and Lauren Ramsey (Spenser); one great-granddaughter, Jordyn Ramsey, as well as brother, Garry Rankin and a sister, Ellen Giles. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Throughout her life, Sharron found joy in caring for others. While raising her own children, she continued to open her heart and home to the many children she lovingly babysat over the years. Her home was a place of warmth and laughter, filled with the energy of little ones whose lives she touched with kindness and care. Once her children were grown, Sharron began working outside the home. She was employed at The Rochester Corporation before later joining Walmart. In both roles, she took pride in her work and formed lasting friendships with colleagues who appreciated her dedication and cheerful spirit. Sharron’s hobbies reflected her creativity and generosity. She enjoyed crocheting intricate patterns to share with loved ones, painting ceramics with imagination, and reading books that transported her to new worlds—all while remaining grounded in the life she built around family and friends. Her legacy is one of quiet strength, unwavering love, and a deep appreciation for life’s simplest blessings. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her. The family will hold a private service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
