Life story
" John Wayne Weakley passed away on October 30, 2025, at the age of 57, at Mary Washington Hospital, of cancer. He was born August 8, 1968, to John Alfred Weakley and Joyce "Candy" Elaine Weakley of Fredericksburg, Virginia. At the young age of 4 years old, his mom passed away at a very young age. He was blessed that his dad married Judith A Weakley, whom he also called her "mom" for 34 years until her passing in 2007. John confessed his faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at the age of 10 years old and was baptizted at Fairview Baptist Church, Fredericksburg, VA.
John is survived by his wife of 27 years, Arlene Shelton Weakley. Together they raised 3 sons Michael Bradley, David John "DJ" Weakley, and Hunter Ryan Weakley. They call the Chancellorsville area of Spotsylvania County home. John enjoyed football games, hunting, finishing and riding ATVs with his sons. Needless to say, with a house full of boys...there was never a dull moment. Also, John is survived by his 4 sisters: Lisa Weakley Ruppert of Mertztown,PA; Dianna "Annie" Weakley Green (Alan) of Spotsylvania, VA; Kim Hertel (John) of Harrington, DE; and Terry Reed (Scott) of Athens, AL. He also has 10 nieces and nephews, and 2 four-legged children Boston and Sydney - family dogs. He has 1 grandson, Ryan Matthew Weakley age 6. His father-in-law, Woodrow Shelton, Greenville, TN; Brother-in-law David Wayne Shelton. On behalf of Johnny, we specially mention his mentor & dear cousin Skip & Stacey Weakley of Harrisonburg, VA; his Uncle Bob and Aunt Joy of Lancaster, SC; Aunt Lutie and Uncle Clark of Sumerduck, VA; and his buddies Wayne Bland, John Crowder, Brent Schultz and Darren Rodgers.
John worked for Trace Services, home office in Pittsburgh, PA, a contractor for Columbia Gas Company in Virginia. For years, John worked as a truck driver at companies in Virginia. Johnny will be remembered for always willing to help others by painting, fixing things, moving them or just doing whatever he could for friends and family. John loved his family. Christmas was his favorite holiday. He loved family gatherings and good times doing cookouts and bon-fires with his friends.
A Celebration of Life for John Weakley will be held Sunday, November 2, 2025, 1 pm to 4 pm, at Basilica's New York Deli, 7013 Harrison Road Spc, Fredericksburg, VA 22407, in the private dining-room. Come as you are, nothing fancy for John. Food, desserts & drinks are available for you to purchase to celebrate John's life. Family & Friends welcomed. Please come share your memories of "Johnny". Also, thank you to Dr. Bakos and Dr. Dash at the Ear, Nose & Throat & Facial Plastic Surgery Center, and Mary Washington Hospital Hospice Staff on 4 Floor North.
