Life story

" Born to Lester and Virginia Burroughs, 5/23/1953. Carol Lee Farley was a registered nurse who had a natural gift for serving others. “Save one life you’re a hero; save 100 lives you’re a nurse.”
Surrounded by family, she passed away on October 26, 2025, after a brief and difficult battle with pancreatic cancer. She was 72 years old. Carol was a proud graduate of Western Connecticut University. After graduation her nursing career took her from New England to New York to Washington DC to Northern Virginia. She had a passion for helping others. Her extraordinary dedication to patient care won her the Case Manager of the Year Award, not once but twice, at Mount Vernon Hospital in Fairfax County. Carol was more than just a giver of care; she also mentored others and was an attentive listener. She blended her professional and personal life with seeming great ease. After retirement to Bumpass, Virginia, her passion was nurturing things for growth in all forms, especially people. Her other great joys included tending to her vibrant flower and vegetable gardens. She had a deep love for serving her community and dedicated more than a decade to the Home Owners Association board. In this role, she was a positive reinforcement for giving back to the community that she cherished and loved.
Carol is survived by her husband, Kevin and dog, Rookie, children James (Ellie), Sean (Amber), Jason (Erica), Taylor (KC) and Ryan, and her grandchildren, Sadie, Kaleb, Kelsey and Tyler. Her father Lester Burroughs, brothers Chadwick, Todd and Mark, sisters, Susan and Nell and many loving friends. She is predeceased by her loving mother, Virginia.

A memorial service will be held for Carol on Friday November 21, 2025 @ 11am at St. Matthew Catholic Church,  8200 Robert E. Lee Dr, Spotsylvania Courthouse, VA 22551. Your expressions of sympathy are welcome, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Carol's name, may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Spotsylvania County Animal Shelter. "
