Life story

" On October 6, 2025, Steve William Buchanan closed the door behind him after completing his work at WPRZ. He sat in his car to drive home but instead walked into the arms of Jesus for all eternity. He was born on October 23, 1944 and fought the good fight for over 80 years. He’s now in Heaven where he’ll be reunited with his beloved wife Sally and his only son Steve. Steve was born in Clintwood, Virginia to Amy Emaline and Earl Grady Buchanan. He had two sisters: Phyliss and Jackie. He’s leaving behind two daughters and a daughter in law: Lisa Gonzales and her husband Sergio, Shannon Pollard and her husband Archie, and Gloria Buchanan the widow of his son Steve. He was Pe-pa to five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Steve along with his wife Sally were radio pioneers and started one of the first Christian radio stations in his area… WPRZ. He faithfully and prayerfully dedicated his life to that ministry for over 43 years. He especially loved Bluegrass music and taught himself to play the guitar in his late 60’s. He was a man who never stopped learning. He loved history. He educated himself on the Civil War, early American pioneers, Indians, arrowheads, musicians, the US Constitution and many other subjects. He was an icon of Americana and grit from his cowboy hat, fringed leather jacket, and large silver belt buckle to his alligator cowboy boots. Steve died with his boots on. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. "
