Life story
" Gene Edison Vanover passed away on September 16, 2025 after a short battle with cancer.
He was born in Clintwood, VA in 1948. He would always tell everyone that he was “the seventh son born on the seventh day of the seventh month”. and this year he turned 77. Gene proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1967-1971, achieving the rank of Staff Sargent. In 1974 he went to work for Fairfax County Maintenance and Construction division and retired 30 years later as a Labor Crew Chief.
Gene is survived by his brother Guy “Jr” Edward Vanover (Sandi) and a host of family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Edna Farmer Vanover; his father, Guy Manual Vanover; sisters, Janice Faye Vanover and Georgia Mae (Vanover) Shanholtz; and brothers, Jessee Columbus Vanover, James Rufus Vanover, Boyd Lee Vanover Sr, Paul Kenneth Vanover, and Virgil Friend Vanover.
A funeral service, with military honors to honor Gene, will be held Oct 7, 2025 at 12pm (arrive by 11:45) at Culpeper National Cemetery, 501 E Chandler St, Culpeper, VA.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to your favorite charity in Gene’s memory. "
