Life story

"John Elton Alvey III of Woodbridge, Virginia passed away August 4, 2025 in Stafford, VA.

He was born January 28, 1939 to Hazel and John Alvey in Washington, D.C., the oldest of 10 children. He was raised in Lorton, VA and graduated from Mount Vernon High School, Alexandria VA in 1957. He attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg, VA.

John worked for many years at a company named Design and Production, owned and operated Barge 506 and a marina on Neabsco Creek, and was an entrepreneur and real-estate developer.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John E. Alvey II and Hazel L. Alvey; his brother, James D. Alvey; his sister, Norma J. Green; and his brother, Jay D. Alvey.

He is survived by his three sons, John E. Alvey, Jack E. Alvey and Jeffrey E. Alvey; his sisters, Marjorie Barrett and Sandra Thurston; his brothers, William Alvey and his wife, Joanne, Richard Alvey and his wife, Joanne, Benjamin Alvey, and Michael Alvey and his wife, Linda."
