Life story
"Christine Urbin, lovingly known as “Chris”, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at her residence in Spotsylvania, Virginia, at age 87, following complications from a fall.
Born in Schuylkill Haven, Pennsylvania, in 1938 to Howard and Luella Althouse, Chris grew up in the Lehigh Valley area. She earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Art Instruction from Kutztown University.
Chris married Robert “Bob” Urbin in 1963. They moved to Fort Plain, NY in 1970. There they built a life together on Heroth Road, raising their daughter and establishing their forever home. They shared nearly 50 years of marriage.
Chris spent 22 years teaching art at Fort Plain High School, where she became a beloved mentor and friend to many of her students. Chris and Bob were active in the trapper community, enjoying years of tailgating and forging new friendships at trappers’ conventions. She was also an accomplished painter, best known for her wildlife paintings and hand-lettered signs.
After Bob’s passing, Chris entered a new chapter of life, moving to Virginia to live with her daughter, Christl, and son-in-law, Nick. There she found joy in spending more time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, while continuing to build new friendships and pursue her love of painting.
Chris will be remembered for her strong work ethic, her enjoyment of the outdoors, and her unconditional love for her family and friends. She was always willing to lend an ear and offered unwavering support and encouragement to those around her.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and her younger sister. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, and two older siblings.
A Celebration of Life Service is planned for 2:00pm on Saturday, July 5, 2025 at the Mercy Hill Community Church. 9215 Courthouse Rd, Spotsylvania Courthouse, VA 22553.
