Life story

" Judith Ann Vryland, 80, of Amissville VA, passed away peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday afternoon, June 1, 2025. She had been a resident of Poet’s Walk in Warrenton VA, a memory care facility, for the past 14 months.

Judy was born on December 18, 1944, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Her father moved the family several times during his career. But sometime during Judy’s childhood she was fortunate enough to have her very own horse named Mystic Mary and that led to her lifelong love of horses. She graduated from Madison College in Virginia (now James Madison University) in 1966 with a Home Economics Education degree. After graduation she decided she wanted to see the world before settling down, so she became a TWA flight attendant based first in Kansas City MO and then in St. Louis MO. She retired from that career 33 years later in 1999. Because of her exciting profession, she had many wonderful experiences traveling all over the world.

In 2001 Judy moved from Columbia MO to Amissville VA where she finally settled down and had many good years with her beloved cats and dogs in her beautiful home and yard that she dearly loved. To stay busy, she took a job as cashier at Rhode’s Drug Store in nearby Warrenton VA for four years before retiring for the second time. She loved serving customers and getting to know folks in the town. She also led her neighborhood Bible Study for several years and her greatest wish was for her friends to come to know Jesus as their savior.

Judy never married or had children. She was predeceased by her mother, Eileen Boorsma Vryland, her father, George William Vryland and her sister Susan Eileen Vryland. Her father was a decorated WWII Air Force B-17 bomber pilot over Europe.

A graveside service will be held on July 9, 2025 at 12 noon at Flint Hill Methodist Cemetery in Flint Hill, VA. Memorial contributions may be made to Judy’s church, Amissville Baptist, 776 Viewtown Road, Amissville VA 20106."
