Life story
"Malcolm Edwin Antworth, 93, passed away after a brief illness on March 12, 2025 at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, Virginia with his daughters by his side.
Born in Gregg Settlement, New Brunswick, Canada, on September 19, 1931 to Howard Antworth and Joycie (Gee) Antworth, he was 11 th of 13 children. He married Carmen Flewelling on May 4, 1957 and moved to the United States and became a US citizen in 1963. Malcolm has lived in Maine, Connecticut, Florida as a “snowbird” after retirement, and his home was in Virginia since 1994.
Survivors include his daughters Valerie (Daniel) Lemelin of Spotsylvania, VA and Sheila (Michael) Lafferty of Watertown, CT, grandchildren Keith (Dena) Lemelin of Chester, VA, Adam (Abby) Lemelin of Marion, AR, Kerry (Stephen) Kilpatrick of Front Royal, VA, Erin (Elliot) Crane of Fredericksburg, VA, Sarah (Justin) Giffin of Charlotte, NC, and Courtney Lafferty of Torrington, CT. He had 4 great grandchildren; Alexander (“Xander”), Jayce, and Kaylee Lemelin of Chester, VA, and Bennett Lemelin of Marion, AR. His last surviving sibling is his youngest sister, Elaine Antworth Love, of Ontario, Canada.
He came to a strong faith as a young adult and remained fully devoted to his Pentecostal heritage. He prayed for his family and read his Bible daily. In his adulthood, he loved hunting and fishing, and in his later years, enjoyed sitting in the bright sunshine in warm weather hoping he would glimpse a deer walking through the yard. He learned to play acoustic guitar in his late thirties and always loved blue grass gospel music. He retired in 1993 from Mutual Biscuit Company and was a member of the New England Teamsters.
His wife predeceased him in 2021 and he missed her deeply and sometimes said he was “homesick for her”.
His family will gather, share memories, and quietly celebrate his life. Interment of his ashes will take place later at Estes Park Cemetery, Easton, Maine. Donations may be given in his name to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN. https://www.stjude.org/ or a charity of your choice.
