Life story

" MSgt David Wayne Bias, 62, of Stafford Virginia, passed away at Mary Washington Hospital on March 7th 2025. Born December 28, 1962, a beloved son of Barbara Ann Adkins Bias and the late Bernie Wayne Bias of Salt Rock, WV. A 1981 graduate of Barboursville High School. A member of the cross-country team; he enjoyed distance running for most of his life. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1981, where he served in the motor transport maintenance field, in numerous assignments and deployments around the globe, and retired as a Master Sergeant after over 24 years of service. He continued working for the Marine Corps as a civilian in several critical acquisition positions until his second retirement in March 2022. He had a hunger for learning, was an advocate for higher education, and a mentor to many. A graduate of Averett University (MBA) and National Defense University (MS), National Resource Strategy and Policy, Eisenhower College (ICAF), Marine Corps Amphibious Warfare School and held a certificate in project management from Florida Institute of Technology. He was the recipient of numerous medals, campaign ribbons, and awards throughout his careers.

He deeply cherished quality time with his wife, sister in-law, Yuna, and loved ones with a few (or sometimes more) beers & good food. During his retirement, he collected vehicles, or “junk”, as his wife Susan called them, as projects and worked on them with a goal of bringing them back to life. He had a passion for anything with an engine and DIY projects. He enjoyed having man’s best friend with him almost everywhere he went, he had an immense love for rescued dogs. David enjoyed quality time with his family and friends, known for making one day trips to WV, NC, MA, or anywhere else he believed he was needed by family or friends.

David was preceded in death by his father; Bernie Wayne Bias, mother-in-law; Ki Pae Kim, grandparents; Bob & Eula “Turk” Adkins, and Bernie & Lovie Bias, aunts & uncles; Iris (Ted) Roe, William “Bill” (Leona) Bias, Floe (Tom) Thompson, Douglas Bias, Stella Bias, and great-niece; Emma Grace Beckett.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Susan Yun Bias (Stafford, Virginia), son William (Nhi), and two grandchildren; Brieanna of Virginia and Gabriel of Washington, two sisters; Angela (Carey) Childers & Natasha Bias of Salt Rock; a brother, Rodney (Kristina) Bias of Barboursville, sister-in-law; Yuna of Stafford VA, aunt Sherry (Tom Harris) Adkins, uncle Mike Adkins, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces & nephews, and dear friends, including life-long Salt Rock friends; Donny Gue, Tim Eplin, & Paul Bias and very dear friend Herbie Morris; who remained by David & Sue’s side until his final hour.

The family would like to express appreciation for the love & care that he received from Mary Washington Palliative Care and Veterans Affairs. Burial services will be private. Found & Son Funeral & Chapel of Culpeper, VA is serving the family. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to a Pet Rescue/Animal Shelter or charity of your choice. "
