Life story

" Valarie (Val) Ryan 68, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2025, at her home in King George, Virginia after a courageous battle with cancer.
Val was raised in Tewksbury, Massachusetts and is predeceased by her father William Wheeler, and her mother(s) Marie Wheeler and Jean Wheeler.

Throughout her life, Val had a passion for helping people, especially those with different abilities. She worked diligently with her students in the Life Skills Program at Lowell High School for over 20 years. In addition to working with student in Lowell Public Schools, Val also had the opportunity to work as a personal care assistant and developed a close bond with those who she cared for. Upon moving to Virginia, she continued her work in the Sealston Elementary School until her retirement.

Val’s greatest joy in life were her grandchildren. She made sure every moment was special. You would find her attending sporting events, enjoying beach days, making memories while sledding, doing crafts and Facetime. Val was also known for her generous spirit, sense of humor and strong friendships that she treasured deeply. She enjoyed cooking, sharing her many dishes with her friends and was always thoughtful of those around her.

Val is survived by her loving husband and soulmate, Jim, whom she shared 26 years of marriage, daughters Tayla (and her husband Mike) Timpe of New Hampshire and Kathryn (and her partner, Collin) Ryan of Virginia, and 3 cherished grandchildren: Jacob, Ethan, and Emersyn, and siblings Bill Wheeler of Tewksbury, MA, Jeanne Doherty of Denver, CO, and Joan Jackson of Methuen, MA and several nieces and nephews as well extended family, including her best friend Graca Soares and lifelong friend Diane Howard. Val and Jim would like to thank all their friends for their love, support, and prayers, especially; Brenda Rash for all her uber rides, Brooke Payne for all she has done, and a special thank you to Jessica Callahan and her entire family who have been by their side throughout her illness.

In keeping with Val’s love for those with different abilities, donations in her memory can be sent to A Brighter Community, a day program for adults with different abilities. A Brighter Community, LLC. 9701 50Th Avenue, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033.
