Life story
" It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Patrick C. LeDoux on November 16, at the age of 25, due to a head-on collision with an intoxicated wrong-way driver. Patrick was with his best friend, Dylan, who is recovering from the serious injuries he received in the crash. They were traveling to go on an adaptive hunt scheduled for later that day. Patrick had a presence that could fill a room and anyone who interacted with him said he possessed a glow, a light, and a passion for helping others struggling with addiction.
Patrick was born at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, Virginia. His first precious moments did not include a baby screaming, but an innocent infant with his eyes wide open, taking in all his surroundings. Patrick resided in Stafford County throughout his childhood and teenage years.
At the age of 19, in August 2019, Patrick was in a car accident which resulted in him becoming a paraplegic. As with most things in Patrick’s life, he faced this life-altering change head-on and did not waver in adapting his life to his disability. Patrick always loved the outdoors; his favorite activities were hunting and fishing. Close friends of Patrick put him in touch with Virginia Wheeling Sportsman, an organization created to help mobility-impaired participants gain a sense of independence by learning to stay active in the outdoors. Joining this organization brought joy to Patrick and gave him purpose along with a way to continue doing those things he loved most.
Even with his determination and resilience, Patrick struggled with alcohol and drug addiction during his teenage years and after his accident, he fell deeper into his addiction. In March 2023, Patrick, determined to change his life and turn it around, entered rehabilitation at The Farley Center in Williamsburg, Virginia. Going from dependency on drugs and alcohol to a life of complete sobriety is not easy, but Patrick used his resilience and determination to keep his focus on this positive change. After rehab, Patrick moved into Wellington Oxford House in Manassas, Virginia, a recovery housing facility that provides residents alcohol-free and illicit-drug-free housing for those in recovery. He possessed no driver’s license at that time, and he would wheel himself 5 miles each way every time he went to Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meetings which on some occasions were daily. Patrick was eventually able to regain his license and drive his car, which was set up with adaptive equipment.
Patrick became a big part of the Oxford House community within Manassas and forged healthy friendships with his AA and NA family which aided in his continued recovery. At the time of this accident, Patrick was 20 months sober. Patrick, always caring and compassionate, took time to go to different rehabs, sharing his story and struggle with others. This gave him purpose and a way to pay it forward. He shared his story in hopes of helping others through their recovery.
Patrick was blessed to have recently found love with a young woman from Bethesda, Maryland, Eulalia Esquenet. Love knows no limits of time and even though their love was short-lived, their love was pure, and on a level, it would take other couples years to reach.
Patrick is survived by his mother, Jacqueline LeDoux, stepmother, Kindra Boyd, father, Frank LeDoux, III, grandmother, Diane Zeigler, step grandmother, Pamela Fabrizio, sister, Megan LeDoux, along with siblings, Joseph LeDoux, Chrissy LeDoux, Ashley Halbeisen (Tyler), and Nicole Pope (Kevin), as well as a host of other living relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Frank LeDoux, Jr, Willian Robinson, Sr, and Patricia Robinson.
A public celebration of life for Patrick will be held at a later date. The family will share details once arrangements are made. To honor Patrick and continue his legacy, the family asks that donations be made to either Virginia Wheeling Sportsman, email address huntvaws@gmail.com, or to the Virginia Oxford House through vaoxfordhouse.org. Although Patrick is no longer with us, his legacy of laughter and compassion will live on. As you remember and reflect on Patrick’s life, remember his motto, “Eat a few meals, poop a couple times, you’ll be there before ya know it!” "
Services will be announced at a later date.
