Life story

" James Aaron “Jim” Hesse, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed peacefully on Saturday, November 2, 2024. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on February 20, 1946 and lived in Metairie for many years before moving to Virginia in 2022. He was a graduate of Warren Easton High School and the University of New Orleans. He spent his childhood playing on the beaches of Mississippi and in the always charming Mid-City area of New Orleans, happily collecting pets (including one small alligator) and cultivating his love of building things (and probably supervising others). One happy day in 1962, he caught the eye of the world’s most patient woman, Marilyn, who would become his wife of 59 years. They would go on to raise three loving children, Jim Jr., Lisa, and Michelle, and a menagerie of pets amid a lot of (mostly) joyful chaos. Jim became the neighborhood handyman, electrician, plumber, and mechanic, because his true passion was construction. He was a dynamic, driven, and detail-oriented builder whose passion for the job was matched only by his infallible work ethic. What we will most remember is his ability to overcome adversity and incredible odds to thrive. His unending love for his family will be remembered by his wife, Marilyn; children Jim (Fran), Lisa (Tim), and Michelle (Skip); grandchildren Corbyn, Ethan (Jordan), Foster (Alysa), and Scarlet; a whole host of friends on North Bengal Rd.; and of course, his beloved dog, Abbie. There will be a service of remembrance Saturday, November 9, at 3:00 p.m. at St. George’s Episcopal Church in Fredericksburg, Virginia. To honor Jim’s memory, have a margarita and share your favorite story with a friend.
