"Vernon Davis was a great father, husband, papa, friend, and mentor. He met and married his high school sweetheart Margaret Davis and together raised a family of 6 children. Tommy Davis, Butch Davis, Dottie Kelly Davis, Norma Smithers-Davis, Gayle Davis, and Michael Davis. While he worked many hours to provide for his family, he still found time to teach all of his kids to ride bikes, put worms on a hook to fish, drive, and many more life lessons. One of his greatest loves was his grandchildren, who fondly called him papa. Kristi Davis, Johnson Davis, Carrie Davis, Cindy Davis, Matt Davis, Sean Davis, Vicki Smithers, Sandi Smithers, Brad Davis, Bill Davis, and Robin Smith were all equally the apples of his eye. Just like his children, he taught his grandchildren many life lessons, spoiling each one of them. He also was the proud papa to many great, great great, and great great great grandkids. He was a man of faith and spent many hours at his church home, volunteering his time. One of his passions was helping people suffering with alcoholism, as this was close to his heart. He mentored many people through his years up until his last final days. The family will be having a private ceremony, and in lieu of flowers, Vernon would want any donations made to your local Alcoholic Anonymous Chapter in your city. He was one of a kind, and will be missed. "
