Life story

"Robert (Bob) Fox, age 87, of Pinole, passed away peacefully on the morning of Friday, June 2, 2023.

Bob was born on September 6, 1935, the middle child and only son of Leonard and Marjorie (Fraser) Fox. He married Patricia (Pat) A. McCabe on August 29, 1969. Together, they lived in the San Francisco East Bay, settling in Pinole in 1973.

Bob graduated from Catholic Central High School in the class of 1953. He was a part of the starting line-up for Catholic Central’s State Championship Football Team and selected by the Grand Rapids Press as part of the official All-City Football Team. Bob continued playing football at Grand Rapids Junior College before being drafted into the Army and serving in the 101st Airborne. After his Army service, Bob earned his Mechanical Engineering degree from Western Michigan University. He eventually moved out to California, where he met Pat while skiing in Lake Tahoe, and they settled in the Bay Area. He earned his Master’s in Business Administration from Golden Gate University. Bob was a longtime member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. He, along with Pat, was involved with the Pinole Seals Swim Team and West Contra Costa Youth Soccer League, while their children were growing up. After retiring from BART, he enjoyed caring for his grandchildren, completing his daily crossword puzzles, playing solitaire, and enjoying his post 5’oclock martini or glass of red wine.

Bob is survived by his wife Pat of 53 years, their children, Robert (Rob) Fox and Bridget (Fox) Collins, their grandchildren Allena, J.T., Stephen, and Ashley, his sisters Anne, June, and Patsy, and many nieces, nephews, in-laws, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.

Besides his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his sister Ellie.
