Life story

"Merrillyn Alice Phoenix Kamp, 85, of Connelly Springs, passed away on Friday, June 24, 2022 at her residence. Merrillyn was born July 12, 1936 in San Francisco, California to the late Merrill Phoenix and Nellie Dickey. She graduated from Santa Maria Union High School in 1954, and then attended Howell Dental School in 1955. She went to work for the telephone company until 1960. Merrillyn then worked for the Head Start program until her retirement. She loved playing cards, camping, and watching Hallmark movies. Some of her fondest memories included family beach trips, outings with her girlfriends, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Jim Phoenix. She is survived by her husband of sixty-two years, Marvin Kamp; children, Jeff Kamp and wife Gentry, Melinda Wallrichs and husband Tom, and Alicia Kirkpatrick and husband Steve; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, July 1, 2022 at 6:00 PM in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service with Rev. April Abernethy officiating. Memorials may be made to St. Jude\'s Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Heritage Funeral Service and Crematory in Valdese is assisting the family.
